What it is
Well, I reckon these dragon eggs are about the most peculiar thing you ever did see. They're made with one of those 3D printing contraptions, and when you crack 'em open, there's a little articulated dragon inside that can move its joints and such. The whole thing's inspired by something called Cinderwing3D, which sounds mighty fancy to me. The dragons are all jointed up so you can pose them different ways, and I suppose that's what makes them fidget toys for grown-ups who need something to do with their hands. They come looking like real crystal eggs, though I suspect they're just plastic made to look pretty. Atticus would probably say it's clever engineering, but I just think it's strange that someone thought to put a moving dragon inside an egg.
For gift shoppers
If you're looking to surprise some young'un who's into those Dungeons & Dragons games, these eggs might just do the trick. Kids seem to like anything that's got a surprise inside, and the fact that the dragon moves around makes it more interesting than a plain old toy. I imagine it'd work fine for birthdays or Christmas, especially if the child likes fantasy creatures and such. The grown-ups who play those tabletop games might get a kick out of having a little dragon on their desk too. But I got to be honest with you - without knowing the price, it's hard to say if this is the kind of gift that'll make someone holler with joy or just nod politely. And since these are 3D printed, I suspect the quality might vary some.
Is it worth it?
That's the sixty-four-dollar question, isn't it? Without knowing what these dragon eggs cost, I can't rightly tell you if they're worth your hard-earned money. The idea's clever enough - a surprise dragon that actually moves its parts - but 3D printed things can be hit or miss in my experience. Sometimes they come out smooth as silk, other times they're rougher than a cob. The design looks cute in pictures, I'll give it that, but pictures don't tell you if the joints work smooth or if the plastic feels cheap. If they're priced reasonable and you got someone who'd appreciate a desk dragon or a fidget toy with personality, then maybe. But if they're asking too much money for what's essentially a plastic trinket, well, you might be better off buying a real book about dragons instead.
